Online Ordering Promos

Learn how to create promos for customers placing catering orders through your website via Online Ordering

Updated over a week ago

Overview: What are Online Ordering Promos?

Online Ordering Promos are partner‑funded discounts that apply only to orders placed through Online Ordering on your website (not on the ezCater Marketplace).

You can use them to:

  • Incentivize customers to try Online Ordering (e.g., “$20 off your first Online Ordering purchase”)

  • Drive demand on specific days or windows (e.g., weekday lunch specials)

  • Encourage larger orders by setting order minimums

Promos are applied via a promo code entered by customers at checkout

You control:

  • The discount type and amount (e.g., $ off or % off)

  • Any order minimum (e.g., $150+ orders only)

  • The promo code

  • Start and end dates

  • Eligible locations

Promos apply only to Online Ordering orders and do not affect Marketplace pricing or promos.

How Online Ordering promos are applied to orders

Understanding how promos affect pricing, tax, and commission is important for forecasting margins and reconciling payouts.

How the discount is applied

When an Online Ordering promo is applied:

  1. The discount is applied to the subtotal

  2. A negative line item shows in the financial breakdown on the order details page in your Partner Portal

  3. A discount line is shown in the customer’s checkout and order summary

  4. The customer pays the discounted total

For example:

  • Food subtotal: $300

  • Promo: $30 off (10%)

  • New food subtotal: $270

Impact on commission and tax

  • Commission is calculated and deduced on the total amount before the promotion is applied

  • Tax is calculated on the amount before the promo is applied

By using Online Ordering Promos, you can:

  • Offer compelling deals to customers ordering directly from your website

  • Increase conversion and average order value for Online Ordering

  • Track results and refine your promotional strategy using tools in the Marketing tab of the Partner Portal
