Olo menu best practices
Keep your menu aligned with your current National Catering Menu and confirm that every item has the correct utensil selections configured
If your brand offers the Meal Program (formerly Relish) at even one location, create a dedicated category in your Olo Catering menu and tag the Meal Program items accordingly
Set this category to a 60-minute lead time so orders pass through successfully for reporting.
If your Meal Program menu isn’t tagged in Olo, your menu will appear blank once the Menu API is turned on
Integration and Modifications
Partners integrated via the Orders API (Olo, POS, Checkmate, Public API, etc.) should set their modification lead time equal to or greater than the lead time in their integrated system.
A shorter modification lead time causes transmissions to fall within the lead time window, which prevents orders from syncing
Example: With an Olo lead time of 12 hours and an ezCater order lead time of 24 hours, the modification lead time should be set between 12 and 24 hours.
Frequently asked questions
How do I “86” or remove a menu item?
Standard “86’ing” isn’t supported through the API. To take an item down, either hide ezCater from the item’s visibility settings in Olo/POS or remove the item from the menu entirely.
Can I set an auto-acceptance threshold for orders?
Yes. You can configure auto-acceptance thresholds based on dollar amounts directly in the Partner Portal.
How are lead times managed in an integrated environment?
Lead times must be set in ezManage. As a best practice, keep them equal to or longer than the lead times configured in your POS to prevent order failures.
What happens if an order fails to reach my POS?
You’ll receive an automated email notification. Failed orders need to be entered into your POS manually to ensure accurate reporting and fulfillment.
How do I integrate the Meal Program?
Meal Program integration requires specific metadata tagging. The exact steps depend on whether your brand is currently on the Public API or the Olo Menu API.
How are hours of operation managed?
Hours must be managed directly in the Partner Portal to stay consistent with your operations. As a rule of thumb, always keep your ezCater hours within the hours set in your Olo/POS system.
